We say farewell to Cassie Humphrey, NCMG
January 24, 2025
Cassie began her career with Little Brown Dog as a bather/Groomer’s Assistant. She successfully completed her apprenticeship with Melissa Fidge and became a staple team member here. She worked toward her Nationally Certified Master Groomer status and set her heart on North Carolina. We had known Cassie was leaving for a while but the day finally came. We are hopeful that her adventures in Asheville bring joy.
Text Message Opt-In
May 27, 2024
We will have some changes coming to how our text messages look but we will still be humans behind that keyboard. It makes us seem mechanical and not human but that is not the case. We are still very much us, we are bound to abide by new norms placed by the Campaign Registry.
Respiratory Illness Concerns
November 28, 2023
In the last month there has been mounting concern around a mysterious respiratory illness that can become rather concerning rather quickly. As ever we are focused on providing detailed care. As well as adding a NuWave Oxypure air filtration system to ramp up our salon wide cleanliness standard we are diligent at our outside the door check in to look for any concerning symptoms. We ask that any pet exhibiting eye discomfort of ANY kind, coughing, lethargy, loss in apatite, eye or mouth discharge to cancel any scheduled visits and consult your vet for further advice. Please understand that if we do have to refuse service we are doing so in an effort to keep our furry friend/family as safe as possible. “Better safe than sorry”
We all hope health to everyone and know that respiratory specialists will find some answers to guide us. (See our FAQ page for more)
We say farewell to Malia Kainoa, NCMG
June 19, 2023
We have had a wonderful year and a half with Malia Kainoa back with us at Little Brown Dog after she adventured away, started her own business, and then returned to the team full time. It has become clear for her that grooming has a physical expiration and similarly to the former owner; she does have to retire from grooming all too soon. We don’t know what is next on the horizon for Malia but we know that we part grateful for the kindness and thoughtful support she has provided to us all. Her last day will be June 30, 2023.

January 24, 2022
Ellaura Robinson was our lovely receptionist for three good years, she since has moved away.
Ellaura will be rejoining the team and assisting remotely.
Current Clients: The best way to schedule will be sending an e-mail with your general availability (day and time of day; ex: Tues & Thurs around 1:30pm) and a good phone number to follow-up via text (or mention if e-mail is preferred). Another option is utilizing the online scheduling app to request (link available on an old invoice or appointment confirmation).
Hannah will be available in the salon via phone Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 8:30am
Goodbye to Sarah Rivkin, NCMG but welcome back to Malia Kainoa, NCMG, CCE
December 31, 2021
As Sarah let each of her loyal clientele know, personally, she has left us for a new adventure. We will see her around town but she will be missed.
Welcome to Malia Kainoa, NCMG, CCE who has made her timely return to the Little Brown Dog family after moving away for about 3 years. She is well versed in one on one services and is sweet as can be.
Under New Management
August 1, 2021
Melissa Fidge and Scott Fidge have passed the torch to Brooke El-Merrahi.
Brooke has been with Little Brown Dog for just over 4 years, almost since the beginning. She has managed adjusting schedules to attempt to accommodate as many of Melissa’s amazing clients as possible.
Changes to note:
-
When booking reoccurring appointments (up to 6 months in advance at a time) length of time between will have to be weekly, biweekly, every 3,4,6 or 8 weeks. Odd number of weeks between visits will be limited to scheduling ONE visit at a time and it is not suggested to wait to rebook.
-
Due to staffing limitations the choice had to be made to shift to only Mondays through Fridays. We will be closed weekends as we support the next generation of stylists. Reassessment of this decision is set to be June 2022
-
Losing Melissa Fidge, NCMG & CFMG (Certified Feline Master Groomer) means we are only able to continue services with a select handful of her feline friends. As this changes we will update you. Our cat services have been paused based on staffing limitations and need for continued education.
-
Hand Stripping: This is an especially involved and physically demanding advanced technique. That being said, I will not allow my team (family) to put undue wear and stress on their bodies while overwhelming a 4-legged friend based on out dated practices. Best practices are advocating for the dogs and therefore any clients who opt in to this specialized optional service will be required to keep a minimum 4 week schedule or we will not offer hand stripping.
